Q. Why on earth would I want to do a J1?
A. To put it simply, it will be the best summer of your life. Barr NONE. Everyone doing a J1 for the first time has the best experience of their lives and meet the best friends of their lives. The question should be "Why on earth would you NOT do a J1?"
Q. How long does it take to get a SSN?
A. In 2006, students received their SSNs within 4? weeks of arrival but it totally depends on how early you get there and where you go.
Q. Where should I go?
A. Well, this is completely up to you. However there are "hotspots" where a lot of "J1'ers" seem to congregate. Ask in the forums, see where people are going, see where YOU want to go.
Q. Should I go alone?
A. Go with your friends or go alone, either way, you are going to have the time of your life. Many people here have been alone (Including the operators of this site) and trust us.... you have nothing to be afraid of. You will meet the greatest people in the world, all out for an adventure too!
Q. Who should I go with?
A. Being honest, the operators of this website went with all different companies/sponsors and the general view is that they are all the same. Some are more helpful than others when trying to change flights etc. (Sayit for example). The person writing this FAQ went with USIT and never had any problems.
