I like to read all the local newspaper classifieds of the area I will be traveling too. I specifically look in the 'rooms for rent' or 'roommates wanted' section and 'job sections'. Craigslist.com is also a great place to look for roomies, and roommates.com is great I hear.

I think that having family is the best way to go, but of course not all of us have that option! Host families aren't very popular here, so it makes getting a roommate essential.

One thing to watch out for with potential roomates is thier time on the house phone! I would reccommend everyone having their own cell phone. Arguments over the phone bill are usually number one on the list of things for roommates to get angry about! Sometimes I wish I could run credit checks on some roommates!

Here is an e-How on finding a room mate!

    Hope it helps!

Even before you move in try to have something in writing declaring what chores and limits are understood. Have someone to sign as a witness on the contract before you move in. I don't mean to sound like a very harsh person but take a look over your roomie and decide what kind of person he is.

Out of the roomies I have had the biggest issues would have to be making sure you pay your part of all the bills, having friends over, and late night partying. If you can keep all those under control then it will go great 99% of the time.
