hey, me and another girl are thinking of heading to montauk. how many of yous are heading over? Jobs are meant to be easy enough to get, accommodations not supposed to be the best but it never really is! I went to Cape Cod last year and really want to do another j1, gona try somewhere different! Its the best summer ever :-)
I'm thinking of heading there this summer too. Or Cape Cod. Anyone know what the nightlife is like? House parties or clubs? In both Cape Cod and Montauk? I won't be 21 til the end of summer.
hey, I was in hyannis, cape cod last summer. had a brilliant time!! was pretty much house parties or beach parties on sea street beach every nite and then every wednesday nite we went to a night club (pufferbellies), bit of a shithole but absolutely brilliant cause all the irish go that nite and you dont have to be 21 to get in. It doesnt make a difference not being 21, if you have someone to buy u drink or else you'll just meet people over there who are 21. no one really goes to the bars anyway, every where closes at 1including all the bars and the one club but that doesnt make a difference really cause u just go back to a house or the beach. I just went over with one other person last year and met loads of people over there. we didnt have anything sorted goin over but found people to live with in about a week and jobs after about 2 weeks. we'll probably head to montauk this year, think its meant to be fairly similiar with the beach scene, just wana try somewhere different. was talking to afew people who were there and they loved it!jobs are meant to be fairly handy to get aswell, cause its a pain lookin for jobs for 2 weeks!is there many of yous headin over?we're definately gna try sort accommodation before we head over this year cause its more expensive in montauk but you earn more money so it balances out.
Thanks for that! Good to know it doesn't matter if you're not 21, won't be til August. I was in Santa Barbara last summer, all house parties and I loved it! Did find a job though! Where about's do people go in Cape Cod? I've heard of Hyannis (or something) but is that the main place or just one? Montauk is still an option, meant to be really good transport system in Long Island to get into Manhattan!

hey wer def goin over, booked and everytin..ann breyers seems to be the place bt soo expensive but nowhere is takes j1s so pointless lukin 4 an apartment!!
ye ann breyery is abit expensive but its only about 20/30 dollars more than a motel and you get a kitchen n sittin room and stuff instead of just a bedroom!ye dont think theres many apartments at all really!when are yous flyin over?think we're the 28th of may, how many of yous are goin? you need about 6/7 people for a cottage!theres 1 and 2 bed ones, but the prices are pretty similiar, and you have to book it from 1st june til end of august!got an email back from them the other day. you also have to pay a deposit up front which is a bit of a pain but expected i guess!!

Hey guys , Was in MTK last year had such a brill summer !
Every1 gets job thats the major plus to going to MTK over california or chicago or nyc wher its known to be pretty hard . i didnt kno one person that hadnt a job and loads of ppl had 2 or even 3 jobs. thing about mtk that ya gotta kno is that its a small seaside town its not a city so its all pretty relaxed ....in a good way ! but its still good like new york is only 2 half hour train nd ya can go in for weekend or day trips whenever u want its really handy . People worked in surf shops restaurants clothes shops supermarkets cafes etc . few ppl worked in some of the posh resort hotel but i doubt theyd hire irish again ! A big thing is labour day (in early sept ) August is the busiest and the 1st week in sept so they want u to be there so lie and say ur staying till then or after then and ull find a job ok . we all sed we were staying till then..and then quit early .. so they prob wont believe u but theyll hire u anyway (but the hotels take it pretty seriously) the money is obv in waitressing cos the tips are unreal but the work is tough . U get about 10-11$ an hr in most jobs and did us grand always had rent money food drink trips to NY etc. also doesnt matter if ur CV is shit just make it up theyll never actually check. Also a bit of babysitting on the side if u can get it is great , they pay brill and sometimes random cleaning jobs r handy , we did a house for 2 hrs and 4 of us got $50 each.
Another thing thats great about the place is its the best place to go if ur not 21 cos theyre pretty easy on ID , off licence take photoshopped Passport photocopies and so do some of the bars , now and again they hav nights wher they dont take them but rarely. One of the places doesnt so people had fake drivers licence that they took but u dont necessarily need one for everywher but handy if u can get one.
As for accomodation its either Ann Breyers Cottages or The Tipperary Inn. We stayed in ABC id recommend these over Tipp if ya can get them , thers a big demand and only 10 houses so get them as soon as ya can if poss. the tipp is a tiny bit cheaper but not much and its basically a motel room so uve no kitchen or anything for the summer ... they do have Air con and ABC doesnt but ABC is defo far better. they have 5 and 6 ppl houses we had 6 in a 5 person house nd they found out at the end but didnt really go to crazy about it . the owner is lovely .. tries to be a crazy scary american now and again but really a softie , if u pay ur rent on time he'll love u . The 5 person house is actually seems bigger than the 6 .the 6 has 2 lil bedrooms and a TINY "sitting room come kitchen" wher as the 5 has a bedroom with a double and single nd then the lil kitchen and sitting room is way bigger than the other house witha sofa bed . ABC and Tipp inn are out at the docks wher there are some jobs but most ppl work in the town in surf shops restaurants clothes shops supermarkets etc . theres a bus that goes often enuf and just from outside the houses and when its not on the right time r ur just being cheap we hitched into town . sounds dodge but not at all we did it like every day. Town is about a 45min walk - 1hr ( in the HEAT!) but like 5 mins in a car and the local r friendly.
Beaches are great , waves are unreal. Brill summer , defo recommend it !

Montauk is great for it´s night parties when you´re off (((((if you´re not off it doesn´t matter :-D you´ll enjoy the night life as well as those who ARE off )))). Don´t pay attention to the first feeling because Montauk is very small "town" but the atmosphere is great. Last year I had a job offer from an agency and I worked in a restaurant, but I don´t want to pay again to the agency so this year i wanna go on my own hook.

going to ann breyers so its 160 a week!...expensive bt its better dan a motel where you have no cooking facilities. so hopefully will just get a job now

there all booked out i think, were waiting for her to get back to us about a one bedroom house we taught we had a six bed cottage but she said they were booked up then, so dont know what the story with them is, do any of ye have a house and are looking for people to share with ?

lina, it is very easy to get jobs on cape cod. you can also go to brewster, its also cape cod. Its a small town but you will get jobs if you are early. i was even in hyannis at one point. i got there on tuesday and i got 2 jobs by thursday. housing is expensive though

Hey, went Montauk last summer was great craic like. Nightlife is great although they were dead strict on havin' ID for june and july anyway....august they lightened up a good bit. Dead easy to get jobs too, loads of jobs constantly opening up, especially as loads of people bugger off home last week in august so they're desperate for people around that time. There's a place round the corner from Anne Bryer's called the Tipp Inn's - run by crooks like but only $100 per week per person. The rooms are in dire state like but ye don't care after a day or so ha. Tipp Inn's is an irish hovel the whole time though so it's pure craic the entire summer, no joke. Situated round the north tip of the town, up by the docks, $9 taxi ride from the town centre. Great summer though so Montauk's one of yer best shots like!
