So I've been spending the last couple months researching locations for a J1 this summer. Heading over with 2 friends (guy and girl) and Ocean City seems to be getting great reviews! It kinda looks like the jersey shore, just with no guidos..
Anyway, does anyone have any info on it? Like what kind of jobs do you get? I heard it's pretty easy to find one, but do they pay well?
How much does accomodation cost roughly? We're looking for a three bed apartment. And what area is best to stay? Up at like 90th-107th street or the other end at like 7th street and all that?
And also, is there a lot of nightlife? Ocean City seems kind of small so I'm just scared that there's only like 3 clubs there and we're going to get bored very fast. We're only looking to work for 2-3 months (may-july) and then travel in august. But yeah any info would be greatly appreciated.
It seems OC, Long Island/Montauk and Cape Cod are all very similar. I can't decide which to settle on. Gonna have to start finding people who've been to each place and ask them. Either way, I'm gonna go west coast for the last 3 weeks or so, had the best summer of my life in Cali last year, though they were hit worst by the recession, so jobs aren't easy.
I cant decide either, there is so many mixed reviews. alot of people I have talked to are saying they couldnt find jobs last yr...my cousin went over with her friends & the four of them never found any jobs...they ended up spending $5000 between them to keep them going....Apparently California was the hardest place to find work, they heard or people getting jobs in NY & Boston.
KC91 first of all i was there last year and there are no guidos but we acted like some of them with some of the stuff that we got upto!!!you could get a job doing anything really it's fairly endless what you kind find yourself doing...pay is enough to keep cans in the fridge,pay the rent and get by in most places...rent is seasonal ranging from $1000-$1200 from early june to early september(be prepared to live with anything from 7-18 of ye-some craic) Never heard of any irish staying up high end streets...all of us were between -2 dorchester street and 12th...7th was where i stayed landlord was prick but craic was 24/7 with about 50 of us irish living beside each other and we had the banter to say the least...you can only work from june 1st with j1 and season in ocean city only lasts from memorial day 1st weekend in june to labour day september 10th or something...EVERYBODY- if you stay till labour day ya get a nice bonus aswel in most places...I am currently able to sort out us irish with about 50jobs from contacts i made last year...My names Paul Curley and i go to NUIG if anybody wants to contact me for more info on Ocean City the numbers 0861626062 -meteor or email me at paulwcurley@gmail.com hope this is alright
Just wondering if anyone has used E-Point Cafe to find accommodation? They are offering us a 3 bed apartment for around $1200 a month and we are very interested in taking it, but not quite sure because we haven't heard amazing things about them.
