Mobile Phone use in the
US is EXPENSIVE. Don't pay the rip off charges over there, get a MAXROAM
sim before you go and get a US and Irish number in one. Call home for
the price of a local call from your mobile!
when I first started researching I had no idea until I found a forum just like this one to help me point me in the right direction. I want to pass this on to somebody who will need it now or in the future. First of all I really learned everything I needed from the official site (http://exchanges.state.gov/education/jexchanges/about.htm) but that only explains the paperwork and legal stuff. To actually find out what you need to do socially when you arrive in the states ask the people before you. Never be afraid to ask questions such as "Where are the kickass bars?" or "Where are great places to visit?"
I have tried searching google for you alex but I am afraid I have come up empty handed. My best bet is to talk to someone who already knows english fluently or speak to somebody at the embassy.
If you are having trouble looking at websites that are not in your native language, try http://babelfish.altavista.com/
Here you can input single words or whole websites to translate them into your language! There are around 12 different languagesa availble, including 2 versions of Chinese.
I hope that this helps! It has always been useful to me when trying to figure out simple phrases or shopping sites!
Oe thing about those translation sites is that the grammar is really horrible in most instances. You can translate it but it will be kind of confusing and odd to read it but you will get the idea of what is going on.
