I'm heading over to Boston around the 26/27th May on my own. I know there's a million other threads like this one but I was wondering is there anyone else heading out there alone wanting to share accommodation? :-) Have you jobs/accom sorted or if anyone has already been - any advice?
heading over the end of May myself, probably going alone too, a friend was talking about coming too, but you know how these things go. No job or accommodation sorted, gonna start looking soon, and never been before, should be an experience.
Yeah, I'm starting to send emails to places looking for some work. Accommodation can be pricey so that's why I'm thinking if a group get together it'll work out cheaper :-)
not that I know of for sure...I'm literally searching for shops, bars, restaurants and trying to see if there's any email I can use to get in contact. Totally chancing my arm but I'm definitely going so I have to try to sort something out!
i used usit der alrite i just used dem do cause der in galway nd i wasnt bothered goin round da place ya should shop round do der nt da worlds best but den again every1 will prob hav som problem wit each of der own providers
I'm flying out with aer lingus - I was born over there so don't need any visa, but really wanna go over and see what it's like over there! I think my friends went to chicago with usit - they seemed to get on okay!
just emailed info@irishconnection.com - it's a group that seems to run a chain of irish bars over there. I just sent my CV and asked if there was anything going. Worth a try.
here's my email - sineadniriain5@live.com - I know it's early yet to look for accommodation but we should get a group together so it works out cheaper. I've been emailing pubs all day so hopefully something will come up!
Today's Boston Globe (www.boston.com) has article on new Irish pub opening next month, should do well in city with loads of Irish pubs. It is called the Four Green Fields, www.fourgreenfields.com/boston/entertainment. Maybe early birds can catch the worm.
Thanks hurley3....I'd be well up for accomidation sharing..has any body looked up places over there? i've been looking up a few areas the past few days and prices seem to vary a lot depending on the place
Boston is really pricey, I'd say we'd have to pile in a good few people. The places to stay seem like Brighton or Allston..I don't really know of anywhere else!
ya brightons wer iv been lookin as well som 2 or 3 beds comin in under 2g per month so 20 people wood make dat fairly good rent wise.... how many wood da rest of ye be willin ta pile in i wood pile in as many as i can did it wit 20+ last summer for 3 months its do-able but depends on your comfort needs
I'd put in as many as we could without getting caught! :-) As long as we had air conditioning i'd say we'd manage! brighton and allston are pretty close to the city itself and sure the T brings ya everywhere!
ya iv been lookin at it.... ya havin stopped in nyc for a week air con is a MUST.... na man ya wood be gettin air matresss surprisingly comfortable and easy to hide if you need a quick get out
na was in san diego if i had been in boston i wooda had contacts for accomodation nd work wooda been handy but will still be class.... ye 21 nd able ta go drivin over der il be rentin cars nd doin a few roadtrips if people are up for it :)
I'd be up for sharing with people too, I e-mailed TDC, got one e-mail back but he never replied to my questions after that. We've loads of time to look for accommodation anyway I reckon, most places arn't gonna go online until April I'd say at the earliest when students over there start to rent their places out for the Summer.
Maybe we can fill a house of us loners :), seams to be a fair few
@darrenmcd: really up for a big American road trip if I have enough money and can get a few people in on it to bring cost down
sweet as.... im 21 a while so cant wait ta act go ta pubs dis year was good last year we rarely left da house only ta go 2 mexico nd den drank loads in da house da majority of dem wer 21..... wer u flyin from da 26th? im arrivin on a flight from london at lik 7pm da 26th of may cant wait :)
I'm booking my flights from Shannon! I'll be over there around 3pm on the 26th :) House full of loners -should be great craic!:) @Paddy Yeah, I checked out that TDC website - still seems a little pricey compared to what you could be paying if you get a good few people into an apt!
oh nd paddy wat sorta roadtrip ya got in mind..... im tinkin o a few 3 or 4 day 1s ta niagra... washington... new jersey ta six flags nd maybe wildwood if its close or atlantic city... did nyc so will prob just go der for a day or somtin
not sure yet, all depends on how the funds are really, really wanted to do an east to west road trip but I think that's a bit unrealistic unless I'm very lucky with a job and rent is low, and it would take a long time. No idea really, would love to see New York and Chicago anyway, probably get a bus or train to NY though as driving there would be crazy. I'm open to ideas
only a 4 hr drive wood be class.... east west roadtrip prob woodnt be fasable unless ya took lik 2 - 3 weeks ta travel nd had an unreal job for da summer
yeah have a full licence, yeah have the forms filled out for that an all, just need to send it off. No I meant driving in New York would be more trouble than it's worth I'd say, but I'm def up for it for a road trips sake, just meant when I'm visiting NY I'll probably get a bus. I'm thinking of heading to Toronto too, but probably can't drive a rental outside America, must look into it properly.
Big loner house we could make a documentary about it haha @sineady was it your man eduardo you got through to? he never wrote back to mine after questions either
@darrenmcd - I'm not going with any company, I have an american passport, so I can go whenever -but I wanna do it j1 style :) Flying from shannon on aer lingus. @Getmeoutofireland - I didn't email him cause I saw other posts here about him, but it seems really expensive when you could divide the cost between 10 people!
@Sineady, you're so lucky having the American passport, you're probably saving about €600 not having to get a visa, my flights are gonna cost €580, while they're only €420 directly from Air Lingus, but feck it, what can you do. It's my last chance to go on a J1 so I'm going either way
Don't disregard Cambridge (where Harvard and MIT are). Other spots in or near Boston with good transportation: Somerville, Charlestown, South Boston, West Rosbury (not necessarily near other college-age groups).
