Hey, me and a friend both 23 from Donegal are heading over on the 25th may. we would be up for sharing a place to keep costs down. I know people who went on J1's to new york last yr and the yr b4. they stayed in woodlawn in the north bronx and maspeth in queens. both areas are safe, not to expensive and easy to get into manhatten from. 3 yrs ago i did a j1 in philadelphia and went to new york for a few days and stayed in queens near maspeth and it was a very handy area to get in and out of manhatten. both areas have a good irish community aswel. id say they would be good areas to try and find a place. Hey! I'm still looking with two girls. We're not sure what to do... We were offered student accommodation which is just under 1000 per persom per month plus utilities which is really expensive and we had an agent offer an apartment but it's a bit weird because he lives there and it's not much cheaper than the student accommodation. I've been looking on Craig's list and a few other websites but we're wary of handing money over before arriving in case it's a scam... I thought we would go over, stay a few nights in a hostel and check out apartments for the first few days but one of the girls wants something before we go... What are you planning on doing? Agents fees are high so subletting seems like the cheapest option, but there is the risk of being scammed...
we have a hostel booked for the 1st 5 days. going to look for places over there. i would not hand over any money over the internet without meeting the landlord. i booked the hostel yesterday which is 2 weeks before i go and had to book into 3 different hostels bcoz none of them had 5 days in a row. so book a hostel now. hostelworld is a good website
$1000 per person is very expensive. I think about $650-$700 is the most id pay. was the place u wer looking at in manhatten. be careful also that most places come unfunished. I did a J1 in philadelphia 3 yrs ago. its alot of hassel getting beds and stuff if the place is unfurnished.
if me and my friend who is going on a J1 with me find a 4 or 5 bedroom place would you be up for sharing. we go over on the 25th may so we could view the places before we hand over any money.
Hey Aidan! I'd totally be up for that. Here's my email nevillek@tcd.ie but I think one of my friend's has decided to go to Ocean City because the rent is high in N.Y.
Myself and a friend (two girls) are heading to NYC for the summer. I'm leaving the 27th. We're still looking for accomodation so if anyone was up for sharing? Anywhere close to Manhattan and cheap! My email is dguilf@hotmail.com! just email me if your interested.
