am definitely considering hawaii as well. was hoping to hit wakiki and work in the bar/clubs. the general consensus seem to be that hawaii is expansive all round, flights accom and food but is worth the hassle.
Hey, myself & 3 other girls are thinking of going to the main island, just wondering if many people are going? Up for sharing accommodation! Any advice? Ciara :)
hey Ciara, Hawaii is definitely top of the list for me with lahaina being quite popular with the Irish j1 crowd. If you settle on hawaii, give us a shout so we can organise a gaff if ya want.
I would also love to go to Hawaii. I have heard it is expensive to get there the flights etc. I want to look into it properly first but wouldn't mind sharing with people if I decide (i.e can afford) to go there!
the cheapest way i see you can possibly do it is by getting a flight to la, then the amtrak to seattle (36 hours), which is suppose to be amazing for the scenery. finally a flight to honolulu for around €1100. the cheapest accom i have seen atm was $500 to share a room with a bunkbed with three other people near waikiki beach but am sure you may get cheaper?
not ideal but wouldnt be bad for a summer i suppose!! it is a lot of money for the flights and stuff i am hoping that that price is return and not one way!!
yup thats return alright, have you paid for your j1 yet? check out cara international so you dont have to pay though the nose for flights after booking the visa!
Just an update the rent is woking out at $330 a month for four months plus the same for the deposit for 5 people, which is a bargain for Hawaii i reckon. add me on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/darkdublin

Cara International is an Au Pairing Agency. Please note that under the rules of the J1 visa, you are not allowed to work with children or in a carer's capacity. This is not the J1 visa programme and you are not guaranteed an Au Pairing match. Be careful of trying to avoid excess charges - it's great to get it cheap but if your sponsor in the US (not USIT or SAYIT, you're technically sponsored by an American company to be there, USIT and SAYIT just organise this for you) is not fully aware of your flight details, and if your SEVIS account is not fully updated, you may force deportation.
Don't wanna scare ye, but there's a reason only certain companies run the J1 and there's a reason they have so many rules.
Hi everyone me and possibly 4 other friends are going to hawaii this suumer. WE have our flights booked as far as LA. Not sure whether to go waikki or maui. Could anyone elaborate on these options and give advice, contact details for jobs etc. I would be really grateful. Finding it really hard to get good solid info on hawaii. Thank you all in advance.
Hey Phil, i was set on heading myself but i have work elsewhere now. It does looks amazing though!! I can send on a email for accommodation if ya want? its for that flat i mentioned above.

Hi everyone. I am considering going in Hawaii this summer on J1. Not sure yet where exactly, but it doesn't matter anyway as far as it is on Hawaii ;) Will go alone so if someone is going alone too please contact me so we can sort out something.
Myself and my girlfriend are heading to Hawaii from pretty much 1st of June till late August, anyone up for shared accommodation lol? We're cool honest :-P We're looking at Maui or Wakki but arnt really decided on anywhere so that's not necessarily set in stone. Also flights my application is crawling through, what are people paying for flights atm?
Hello. I am heading out to Hawaii on the 27th, thinking of waikiki job but we see. I am going alone - my friend chipped his ankle and can't go out till a later date- If anyone is going out around then or needs a roomie etc etc, get on back to me so we can be j1 2012 buddies!
