Hi, I am planning to go to Waikiki or somewhere in Oahu. I am seeking job there, sending plenty of e-mails. If anyone can help me with that just contact me at veronikanz@orangemail.sk. I will appreciate it.

Accomodation there is pretty expensive. It is around 800 per months what is too much. If I dont find nothing in good price maybe I could join you.

i think everyone may be a bit disillusioned with hawaii. I spent last summer in waikiki. its not really that great. theres no house parties because they are shut down within 20mins by cops. jobs are v hard to come by and i didnt know anyone over there on more than 8 dollars an hour. all the jobs with tips or high wages are taken by locals or people who live there. Most places dont want to employ you if you are not there for 6 months or more. when they see "J1".... its just "bye bye". I hear the number of people heading there this summer has trebled... so i dont need to explain that jobs will be even more scarce.
Accomodation is very very expensive in waikiki, as you are never more than 5 mins from the 5 star hotels. then only way to get by is to pay a lot and still be wedged into an apartment. there were 8 of us in a v small 2 bedroom apartment with no air con.... paying 300 each. they made us pay 2000 of a deposit, and never gave it back.... i hear this happens a lot.
Nightlife - do not go if you are under 21... its as simple as that.... you wont get in ANYWHERE. other than that nightlife is ok, its mostly small bars, no major clubbing scene. and its pricey enough.
It might seem like I'm bitching a lot about it.... im not... i did have a great summer, great weather and great memories but i think people need to know the facts before they go so they go prepared. I spent summer 06 in Boston and my summer in Boston was sooooo much better than Hawaii, cant even compare. Im headin back to boston this summer again. Most people i went with to Hawaii said they wouldnt go back. I would recommend people stay on the mainland. Have fun though!!

Heya, just to retract what I said before. Looks like we're going for Maui now, I've heard the beach party scene on Oahu isn't great. Really want to get moving on the organising so if anyone wants to share accommodation give me a buzz. maeve.mcquillan2@mail.dcu.ie
