    Hello, all
Currently, I am in 3rd year fashion design study in Canada, and looking for a summer job in USA.

I have some questions about the J1 visa stuff.
Do I need J1 visa even tho the job is Unpaid? Can I just go there as a tourist?
Are the border officers going to refuse my entry to USA?

I am not a canadian citizen, but from asia... Do I need to get J1 visa in my home country? Is it possible to get it in Canada?

    Thank you for your help...!!

As long as you intend to get a legal job I guess you'll need a visa. It doesn't matter how much you're gonna get paid or if the job is unpaid or not. I've heard of students extending the period of their J-1 visas, or even obtaining F-type student visas while in the States, without having to go back to their countries.
