US is EXPENSIVE. Don't pay the rip off charges over there, get a MAXROAM
sim before you go and get a US and Irish number in one. Call home for
the price of a local call from your mobile!

Hi, my names John and im moving to san fran on my J1....ive heard many great things about the city as a whole but can anybody who visited tell me what they thought about the place? i still havnt found accomodation and times running out omg!!!
San Fran is fantastic but my whole experience was completely ruined by a bad choice in location. Seriously, stay as far clear of the tenderloin district as possible. I am not fussy about where I stay and I have stayed in some dumps but someone shooting up heroin LITERALLY on the doorstep of the hostel was a bit much for me. The city is absolutely beautiful but the Tenderloin area is not.
It's a sharp contrast and very eye opening to see so many homeless, junkies and prostitutes in one area, the like of which you have NEVER seen.
You'll love san fran. There is lots to do and see and the people are lovely. Just make sure you stay in a little more "expensive" area.
