Hey clairee2nd, nope didnt get the house, we didn't want to send over $2000 without any guarantee. Between 5 of us it wud of been 400 each, a lot to risk. I got in touch with irishoutreach-and they contacted the guy for us and adviced us to ignore the rental!! Could have been perfectly legitimate but we decided not to risk it anyway. hey orlaby, i rang that guy, he had a 1 bed appartment and was looking for $2500 a month! my cousin thought this was a bit steep, as it's not like you can fit many in a 1bed to share the rent! and i think a house might be more craic! Im heading over with 2 other girls, and there are 8 more girls we know going! i rang a few realty places, but they werent interested, they just kept giving me other people's numbers! we'll prob just end up finding somewhere when we get out there, cause it seems impossible to find anywhere!!
Claire: thats weird as he said it was a 2/3 bedroom house, with a garden and all.!! for 3600 a month. maybe he has another place too then. Yeah im heading with 4 other girls, we booked banana bungalows for 4 nights so hopefully we'll find somewhere in 4 days!!
i rang the irish outreach in san diego, the woman was really helpful, she was saying that you dont need to say youre a student etc. there are 2 girls heading over a week and a half before me, and there are another 8 heading over as well! i think we'll just have to do what they did last yr and go from door to door when we get there!!..fun times!

Anyone have some good tips on getting accommodation near one of the beaches in San Diego. The best we can get so far is a place is Mira Mesa. Thanks. BTW there's 9 of us going.
Your best bet is to wait until you get to SD. Get a hostel near the beach and just walk around the area. There are lots of apartments that advertise their rentals by just sticking a sign in the window. Also try sdreader.com. But don't stay in Mira Mesa, no-where near the beach and impossible to get public transport from.
Point Loma is REALLY nice. It's really like "Desperate housewives". The houses are all fantastic looking and its a really safe neighbourhood. If you are offered a place there, grab it with both hands.

Il prob end up working in Sea World working around 2 to 3 days a week. Im thinking of looking at Ocean Beach as iv i heard its a bit less snobby than Pacific Beach.
Yeah we were hoping to get jobs in Sea World too. Have you heard anything about being taxed over there? We were in the Usit office friday and a guy warned us off SD saying that it could take up to 8 weeks to get your social security no meaning you would be on emergency tax for most of the summer!
I was in san diego the year before last,there are some major drawbacks to the place but over all its amazing. accomodation can be tough to find and can be very expensive. it is particularly hard to get in pacific beach but this is the place you have to stay in in san diego. There is no point going to s.d unless u are living in pb or mission beach. jobs are not too hard to get, sea world will hire pretty much everyone,your socal security can take a while to get sorted but it only took me and my mates 3 weeks so it was cool. You wont get served beer anywhere unless you have a really good fake id or are 21 but no irish really drink in bars in pb,its all about drinking at the beach or the bay at night and then on to parties. SERIOUSLY go to san diego,stay in pb and have the best summer ever(and drink only nattie ice)

Yeah it was fairly expensive,we got fairly ripped off but we had a sweet apartment so we didnt really mind,we had a pool jacuzzi and pool table and stuff but we were paying 3 grand a month and it only had one bedroom. we had 11 living there at one stage tho so it wasnt that comfortable but it made it a whole lot cheeper. food and drink and stuff isnt that expensive around pb tho. look into staying in avalon apartments (ingraham street i think). they are not too fond of irish students but they always rent to them. also most ppl will say they will want u to sign a 1 year lease for an appartment,just do it and then bail after 3 months. u will lose your deposite but thats gonna happen anyway. stay as close to the ocean as possible, generally dont go any further back than noyes street if possible and try be as close to garnet as you can too. stay in the bananna bungalow hostel when u first arrive in s.d. its right on the beach and you will meet loads of other j1ers there. book it as soon as possible to as it books out so quickly
Was in SD last year and all I can say is i`d do anything to go back again(stupid work experience!)
A few tips I would give
As has been said before-try book a week in a hostel to get to know everyone for the summer-We went to OBI and it was definetley the best week over there
Regarding jobs you`ll get a job in sea world absolute no problem(they take a drugs test so be warned some of you), I worked in elite security-Its the same deal as SW -once you get an interview you`ve got the job-they hire absolute loads of irish too and both males and females-its not real security-just bag checking and stuff when going into concerts etc-We got to work at concerts /american football games etc-slightly better money than SW too-but in SW you`ll make so many friends with so many working there-Elites no is 619-574-1503-dont ring now though wait till you get over
Get accomadation at the beach even if it is dearer-we gave up and stayed in archstone in mission valley-I wouldnt recommend there-a few got ripped of there and they really dont like the Irish!
Watch out for the police-there sick of the irish-So so many got court appearances for underage drinking and even drinkin in public if your 21,or drinking on the trolley down to tj
You`ll hear alot of scare stories about tj -its a dive and the police are well known for arresting you for nothing just to get a bribe out of you -just be smart and you`ll be grand

We'd be looking since November and just got a studio in PB last week. Keep trying craigslist and email everything in OB or PB. Even if the apartment advertised isn't right for ye they may have something else. Thats how we got the studio ;)
