Well me and my friend are going over to san fran for the summer...just wondering about accomodation and work over there is it is hard to get..we are willing to share accomodation too.
Well my two friends and I all female have found a 4 bedroom place in the city 4500$ a month all inclusive, were looking for 3 or 4 other people to share with. We are going over the 10th of June and will be renting the apartment from the 15th of june to the 1st august, were going travelling the coast after this. I'm in UL and going over to SF on the 26th of May and coming back early August....I'm in pretty much the same situation as alot of ye, I'm looking for accommodation but not too worried as I heard from my brother and cousins (who were in SF last year) that alot the time you can just go out to berkley when you arrive and get accom that day. I was talking to a landlord in berkeley about renting a house from him for the summer. I got offered a place in the student co-op tho so i'm gona take that. My names Seán I'm 23 and I'm going on my own for the summer. I'm just finishing final year exams and I'm really throwing myself in the deep end with nothing organised but I have traveled on my own before. I'm there from June 9th - Oct 1st then I'm flying to Sydney for another few months of it! I did 3 years in UCC studying Geography and Economics. This summer I am looking for sociable people to live with who are not keen on taking life too seriously but still have just have a bit of respect and know how to have the best time of their lives! I'm well up for the craic and will probably be working part time after a few weeks. I play a bit of guitar and listen to a bit of everything and have no problem sharing an apartment with people for a while even if its just for a couple of weeks! If you'd like to meet sometime I'd be delighted to at least get to have a chat or skype about it and put things into perspective! I'm going back to SF for the second summer in a row this year and bringing a friend with me this time. We're not looking to cram with 10 other Irish students (no offence to anyone, but after one summer of it, you kind of want the calm that comes from a smaller group). We'll be living either in the city or somewhere near BART in Berkley or Oakland. I work til late evening (11-12pm some nights) downtown so I have to be close to public transport. We're looking for two other friends (or people willing to share a bed/bedroom with another stranger, we'll be sharing one room) to get a 2BR place. The max rent would be $2400/$2500 a month so $600 or $650 each a month. We're flying out June 1st from Cork and leaving for LA around the 18th of August (though nothing's booked, we're flying home from LA on the 25th) so we'd want people with similar dates or a bit longer (for instance if you're staying til the end of August, we could help out with the rent there a bit, or if you're staying in to Sept. we could help you find someone to fill our spot for the month or help you look for a place for the month. We're just friendly like that :) ). We can't really afford it on our own so can't take on people for only the month of July, etc.
Because there's a good chance everyone's schedules will be different, we're looking for respectful people who'll clean up after themselves and know how to do their own laundry. That being said, we'll be working hard so we'll appreciate a good night out and having friends round. We have some friends coming to us for a few days at the end of June and there's obviously no problem if ye've friends or family visiting for them to crash for a few nights or a week or something, but we're only looking for two to actually share the whole summer with. We will hopefully have a place that has a patio or yard or porch or something to smoke cigarettes on (most buildings in SF are smoke-free). Part of the adventure is finding your feet but I'm pretty familiar with the city after last year so if you need a hand with anything, you can ask away.
The place will have to be gay friendly, clean, and drama free but other than that we're pretty much open to anything as long as we all get along or are at least nice to each other!! Wow this sounds like one of those bloody formal craigslist ads. I didn't mean for it to, I've just been reading so many of them!

To kateh4264, littlepea and jamiecollins and those other posts above or anyone else, ye interested in Berkeley? 3 of us( 1 mary i and 2 ucc students) looking to get a frat house? originally had larger group but others are going to visit family in Oz now! so we're looking to get a group to share a frat house with...the more people the cheaper it is and of course the more banter it would be! and jamiecollins, ya i've been told by any1 i know who has been to san fran to go to berkeley...full of irish staying in frats so loads of house parties and since the university is near its a college area full of students and places to get jobs if ur there in time!

degaffa, The frat houses are fine if you're up for the parties that are constantly going on! calgreeks.com has a comprehensive list of all the frat houses. A lot of them won't reply to emails, but if you take the list out to Berkeley with ye and show up on the doorsteps, ye'll get a place within 2 or 3 days. Have a hostel booked for the first few days and bring enough money to pay for the summer (depending on how many of ye are sharing a room this can range between $400 and $1100) and you pay up front then for the whole summer. Make sure you see the room first because they usually just rent out the first year rooms (pledge rooms) and you might want more. The only thing is, you'll have to be out by mid august. Universities in the states go back to college in mid august. If ye're short beds, ye can request one from another room if it's available or look on craigslist for people with ones cheap or free to take away that will drop it to the house.

This year we will be hosting 4 J1 Orientations to allow J1ers a chance to meet one another and also get the scoop on work, accommodation and other useful info and advice. Free snacks and goodie bag for all who attend. The IIPC also hosts a FREE J1 BBQ at the end of June to welcome all J1ers to San Francisco and officially kick off the summer. It’s going to be a good one :)
