Yup true! I think the hardest part is going to be getting a job. Still can't wait to go though with 2 of my best mates. Going to be easily better than last summer I spent out there as well. Try craigslist as well for acc. Some good cheap ones, but you have to be careful as to the location lol

Go to the IIPC in San Francisco (its on Geary Blvd. and 18th Ave.) they might be able to help, check craigslist, or if you know a few who live out here ask if they no anyone you can stay with.

I went to san fran on my own, an lived in Berkeley, having the time of my life. i strongly recomend applying to live in the CO OP housing. It is full of UC Berkeley summer students and J1s. It is very cheap, and great fun. LIving in student halls of residence but not having to go to university, and meeting a wide variety of people.

I believe this is also available in Boston

I'll be travelling alone and I don't really mind where we stay. What do ye think about emailing that usca crowd and asking is it possible for us all to being in the one house?
  9.
yeah cool that'd be an idea, i'm looking around now and cant find anything
  10.
Yeah cools that sounds great! We are from dublin, kildare and westmeath and in DCU.

Right, emailed that USCA place and just waiting on a reply. I asked them how would it be possible to secure places in a house for nine people, I also said it'll be mixed because I'm presuming we don't all possess the same stuff down there. Is that sound with everyone?
  12.
yeah thats sound cool we'll see what happens sure,
    found something have a look:

I got an email from that usca crowd. they wont be able to put us all in the one house, but are willing to put us in different houses or apartments. in fairness the rates for the apartments arent that bad. for the whole summer in a four bed with your own private room is $1,221. each apartment has a bathroom, kitchen and the like. I think its a pretty sweet deal.
  15.
thats mad, how far out is usca?? i'd say go for it!!

It's out in berkley close to the uni campus. I'm just waiting on an email back to them about applying. It costs $60 to apply each, $50 refunded if you withdraw your application. So I just asked if we could all apply together to save money and what apartments are available. If we are able to apply together then we're gonna need definite numbers. The others haven't wrote back in a while so I dunno if it's ok with them
  16.
hey sorry havent replyed in ages college stuff u know how it is!!thats sounds deadly we're def interested in that!!!the more the merrier eh!!!only thing is we'll only need accommodation for 2 months cos we're going travelling for the last month so does that make a difference on the price or is that more hassle for u??how many of us is there now???
  17.
yeah man, you can put us down for two and a half months definately but we'll probably up sticks and go the end of july and go travelling i'd say!!!

This is the email I got back off them:

Hey Mick, it is really hard to say as we have lots of assignments out right now and many contracts are due on Wed. Unless you get on the waiting list with a $60 deposit, we won;t hold spots for you and your friends. However, if you each give us $60 and we don't have housing for you or you don't like what we assign you, you can each get $50 of the $60 back.
    Hope this answers your questions.
    betsy

So it looks like we all have to apply individually and may not be gauranteed of a place. It's pretty close to summer and so it's even more unlikely we'll get a place. If ye want to apply that's fine, but I think I'll keep on looking.
  18.
thats a bit of balls, how do we go about applying to them? we'll still keep looking for housing tho, havent looked in a few days so must have a quick look! we could always get a big tent, sure we'll get a cheap one in lidl or somewhere haha

go onto www.usca.org and click on apply now and you should be sorted. I think I might apply anyway, just in case I do end up sleeping in a tent.
