hey! me and a friend are defo gonna be surfing in maui this summer (just booked everything :) ) and we'd love to know if there'll be a good gang of ppl there too? any1 defo going to maui? we're thinking it'd be nice to know some people for house parties etc :) oh and has anyone looked at accommodation yet? we're staying in the banana bungalow hostel for a bit and then moving to kihei, any1 advice/opinions on that are welcome :) cheers!
hey. Spent last summer in maui. Also spent the first night in the banana bungalow. It's ok but get out of there asap n make your way to the west-side of the island. Kihei is ok, but a lot quieter than lahaina, that's where the main focus of j1ers were. Its busier there too, i.e. work-wise. Knew some people stayin in kihei and they kinda felt a bit detatched from the goings on of the j1ers a bit. If ya get transport i.e. a car, ya can drive kihei to lahaina in 20mins aaprox. well worth it if u're def. stayin there. for surfin, the strect of road leading from lahaina towards ma'alea has nice quiet surf spots, but the best surf's at the north of the island. Summer swells won't be as big as u may expect for maui, but still excellent fun... here's where transport'll be pretty much a must too, gettin around to different spots, away from the busy learner patches....
