I have only recently heard of these.Do they actually go on and do they work?

So if I take out a 6 month lease, then after 3 months there, have a party so I get kicked out? Does this happen?I'm not planning to do it, just curios.

Yes, you would certainly loose your deposit. However, I think that is the point.
I would not do that if I were you anyway, you'd only be giving a bad name to the Irish.

Yeah, but it wasn't in Santa Barbara proper, it was in this dive called Isla Vista which is 15 miles from SB. The landlords and hostels I've contacted in SB are happy to have the Irish again this summer (as long as we behave). Santa Barbara city is class; full of beautiful people, loads of jobs and really chilled.

    Keira,
Can you reccomend a leasing agent so that some people could get accommodation sorted before they head out?

There's a student apartment complex called Haley Cottages downtown that took in a lot of J1ers last year; I received an email that they will be taking Irish again this summer. Or stay at one of the hostels first, have a look around, and pick where you want (but stay away from Isla Vista, it's a dump and the landlords don't want the Irish this year anyway)

    Hey there
Remember that the landlords will have your visa details aswel as a copy of your passport so you are contactable when you return to Ireland. Should there be extra damage during the party.. and there always is... then whomever signed the lease will be liable.. No joke.. they will get their money.. its happened in the past!

My advice is to get a 3 month lease!

    Regards

    Laura
