SF aint that cold, its cool (usually about 55F-60F) during the day and any day I was in it it was pretty sunny. Most fog rolls in from the Pacific in the afternoon, thats when it starts to cool down a bit. North, South or East of SF and it can get pretty hot. Berkeley is east of SF and not really affected by the fog, so it stays sunny. To get away from the fog in SF, all you have to do is go to So. San Francisco as the fog usually doesn't go over the hills. Any fog that is in the bay is burnt off pretty quickly in the morning. Its liveable. Thank god we didn't go out a few weeks ago. They had the heaviest rain for a good few years. SF's one of those weird places. One part of the city can be completely in fog all day, whereas the other side will be in roasting sunshine. Hope thats of some use

Yeah, 3 places have now replied, so its up to my mates to decide where they want to go. They are pretty close to where your staying at (block away). Spent all day yesterday looking at things to do and got an e-mail from a guy who lives near SF with a heap of info in it on places to go and things to do

I've only been in Berkeley 2/3 times. Oakland which is right beside it is a beautiful city and its only 20mins on BART to downtown SF. If you had a car it would be less, just over the Bay Bridge. Its a nice uni town/city from memory and has some great views of the SF skyline, Golden Gate Bridge etc

Yeah, though theres fault lines running the whole way through the Bay Area (san Andreas Fault, Hayward Fault etc etc) and there was a 3.2 earthquake there on Wednesday I think in the east bay. So be warned
