    Hi elle,

Dont think girls can stay in a frat house so check out this http://www.calgreeks.com/chapters/panhellenic/ and email a few of them. We emailed about 25 frat houses and only about 4 replyed but we have accom so its all good.

Friends stayed somewhere in the mission last year, said they'd never do it again. Full of lowlifes, nothing bad happened to them but they had to go everywhere in groups of 2 or more and got taxi's to the front door if they had been out drinkin. Dont know anything bout sunset. Have u tried https://calrentals.housing.berkeley.edu/ that was going to be my next port if i didnt get accom already. They sort out all the campus accom and some offsite stuff aswell, prob well work a look.

This might also be a help i cant see anything about summer housing but you could drop them an email and see what they say. http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/index.html

And dont forget theres two other big colleges in san fran city itself click on the links below and find their housing dept's and send them an email bout getting a summer sublet.
    www.sfsu.edu/
    www.ucsf.edu/

Staff in most college's are very friendly and most of the time will go out of their way to help u or put u in touch with someone who can.

    Happy house hunting
  1.
Just for the record, girls can stay in frathouses- they don't discriminate, summer housing is available to anyone. Sorority houses don't tend to offer summer housing however so you're probably better off to try frats.

Just fire off emails to all of them here: http://www.calgreeks.com/chapters/ifc/ and see which ones reply. I sent off emails to each one that I could and got about 6 or 7 back.

Thanks for all the help you guys. I will e-mail the frats in a while as im in the middle of job hunting. Can't wait to get out there again. We should have a massive party out there at some stage :)
  2.
I'll be staying in Delta Upsilon with two other girls (http://www.calgreeks.com/chapters/ifc/du/)
$800 for the whole summer, and they're sound, we had some problems with people cancelling after the room was booked and they were really helpful with sorting us out.

Yeah we booked a triple room in Alpha Delta Phi but then they had to give to some of the "brothers" who were doing summer school but were staying with Phi Delta Theta now so its ok, were paying $233 each a month. Most of the frats dont seem to be taking books though a few of them told us to email back mid april, or call at the door were we arrived. What date u heading out on? Are plan is 5th june till 20th august in Berkeley then rent a car and go L.A, Vegas, Grand cyanon, and where ever else sounds cool. Get back to san fran on the 1st sept then go to new york for a week b4 home

Should I just send the same e-mail and put all their e-mail addresses into the same one? Hmmm....We leave on the 2nd June and arrive later that night so we have the weekend to look about. Work for around 10 weeks and travel to Vegas, L.A., San Diego and Tijuna Mexico, Grand Canyon, Reno + Tahoe, Seattle and Vancouver in Canada (thats if it all goes to plan). Then we leave on the 3rd September and arrive in sunny Ireland on the 4th

Id just copy and paste the mail into a new mail each time, and put the name of the house into the subject otherwise when they reply u wont know which house is which.
  3.
Yoda, damn you! Alpha Delta Phi was my first choice but they had no triple rooms left! What was even more annoying was that there were doubles free but we couldn't take one because there were three of us- but then one person cancelled, AFTER we'd booked a triple in Delta Upsilon, so we could have taken the double in ADPhi after all. Oh well... our plans are pretty much the same. We'll be heading out on June 5th (I'll probably see you on the flight!), berkeley til the 20th-ish (whenever the frat kicks us out, which is around then I think)... not sure what we'll be doing for those two weeks, but on September 2nd we're heading out to New York until the 11th, then coming home.

maxol: Do what Yoda said, I did the copy and paste thing but I didn't use the name of the house in the subject, and when I got replies I had to google the addresses to find out which frats they were from!

yeah i was just looking at Delta Upsilon and Phi Delta Theta only a few houses between them so we'll be neighbours. What ages r u guys? I'm 21 and my mates r 22 and 23. Did u have any luck on the jobs front? I only applied for one job yesterday but havent heard back yet. Been lookin on the old craigslist but hard to find a summer job that pays well and is out doors. R u looking for one in Berkeley or fishermans or what?

Im 19, will be 20 at the start of July. My mates are 19 as well, but I think I will end up looking after them for a few days as I know San Fran pretty well. Craigslist is good, but at the moment there aint really any good summer jobs up. Theres a painting one in Rohnert Park, but thats a good hour north of SF and transport aint that good. I know that if im stuck I can stay at one of my cousins or uncles houses there. Were going to be screwed on the alcohol front though

Buy a car or rent one? I was lucking into rentals for a two week rental of a ford focus it bout $500 - $600 because i'm only 21 and have to pay a extra $25 dollars a day. I'd say u'd be very very lucky to rent a car if ur under 21.

    • CommentAuthormaxol
    • CommentTimeApr 12th 2006

AAA.com or another one of the insurance companies. Must ask my uncle about how it works out. I know a few in the past have done it and insurance is alot cheaper out there than it is here
  5.
I'm 19; my friend is 19 too, I'll be 20 at the start of July but she will be 19 on summer. We're kind of screwed for alcohol too! I've been looking at Craigslist too but again, there isn't much in the way of summer jobs being advertised too, and the jobs that ARE being advertised probably won't take much notice of an email that basically says: 'hey I'm a foreigner who'll be in your country in June, can I have a job please?'

A job in Berkeley would be ideal, but I'll definitely try for Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 as well. Apparently getting a job isn't too hard as long as you start looking as soon as you get there- which is probably what I'll end up doing...

Yeah you need to start as soon as you get there as most people will be in the same boat. I've registered on a few job sites over there and posted a resumé but its early days yet. As for alcohol, a fake id that is good is needed. I don't care what I work as or where, as long as I get a bit of money every week to help pay for uni next year

Alpha Gamma Omega $1000 for the entire summer with free utilities, laundery etc Yoda, though I got a reply at about 12am this morning from another frat and they were looking for between $500-$750 a month. $1000 one even though it is a dry house seems like a better option. Any of you guys up for a trip whilst out there. Been pricing around as I want to go to San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico :D looks deadly
  6.
The house I'm staying in has a social budget for the summer, so hopefully we'll be allowed have drink too! We were thinking of going to San Diego too- probably Santa Cruz as well.

Yoda's lucky... he's staying in the only house with a pool...

Boardwalks just full of amusements, the beach right beside it and the old town is class as well. Theres an Irish Bar in it and last year there was the fittest looking Californian girl workin in it :D Its not to far from SF

No pool you misunderstood me "we booked a triple room in Alpha Delta Phi but then they had to give to some of the "brothers" who were doing summer school but were staying with Phi Delta Theta now" But they do have a hot tub in the back yard so next best thing. I'm sure there's gonna be loads of people wanting to go to mexico for a nights drinking, just hire a big bus and split the bill between the 50 odd people ya can cram on board paramount pictures have a theme park bout 50miles from berkeley as well ya can get a train there for $20 dollars from just beside berkeley in oakland.

Nice one ;) I took a look at Phi Delta Theta's house now, it looks nice. Any idea what the stories with house 'services' is during the summer? Like laundry, meals, etc ... do the houses usually still have them during the summer?

edit: dry house? ouch. I better check mine too.

Yeah theres Bonfante Gardens just near San Jose - http://www.bonfantegardens.com/
and theres 6 flags marine park and theme park which is near Berkeley - http://www.sixflags.com/parks/marineworld/index.asp think its about 20 miles from San Francisco heading NE towards Sacramento. Bart runs to it anyway, so it should be a good day out....

Mexico, i duno what the ages is...but DAMN i want to go. You can bring back 100 cigars, 200 fags and 1 litre of alcohol if your over 21! Plus what ever cheap stuff you can get. Well worth it, though its a days travelling from SF/Berk and I think im going to do it via train.

Yeah most houses have their own laundry systems etc, i.e.washing machine and tumble drier :P

As long as I don't have to seek out and pay for a lauderette, I'm happy!
