    hey,
Just wondering if any1 knows of good places to go this summer where it will be easy to get jobs/accommodation? Thinking of going to huntington beach and was hoping someone could give me some info about the area and if it's worth going to.. There's about 6 of us thinking of goin and none of us will be 21, are they strict on i.d or is it easy to get away with fake ones?
    Cheers

Went to Huntington Beach last year and it was class. Me and about 15 friends got Two 3 bedroom apartments in The Whiffle Tree Apartments out on Edinger. They're a bit out from the beach but its easy to get taxi's and bus stop isnt far either. Plus we all picked up cheap bikes from a market thats on every weekend beside the apartments. A normal taxi in to the main street will cost around $3 between between 6 for heading out at night. They are very strick on I.D everywhere in Huntington, must places will only accept Irish passports. Your best bet is to get somebodies passport that looks like u and photocopy it before u go, then tell the bouncers u didnt wanna bring out your passport in case u lost it. Jobs are very hard to get and you will have to be persistent. Westminster Mall is a good place to look, American Eagle took on a few of my friends. If you dont mind a bit of a bus journey Knotts Berry Farm theme park employ loads of people every summer. Just go out there and they will interview u that day and u should get a job, i worked there and it was serious craic. If you did 3 weeks work u should get enough money to survive the summer and then make up a reason to leave because its hard to get time off from there. Plus if anyone is interested in playing Gaelic football over in Cali there is a team beside Huntington called the Wild Geese. We all played with them and it was brilliant. We got to go to San Diego and Arizona to play matches and all the lads really looked after us and were sound. The biggest surf championships every year in the USA is in Huntington as well and its a brillant week. I would definitely recomend Huntington to anyone. Sun, sea, sand, serious women and serious craic!!

    Thanks Murph777,
Did u have your accomadation sorted before you got there or did u wait till u arrived? I had a look at their website and they want bank statements and some other information when u send in the application, so i didnt really know what to do. how much did it cost you to stay there for the summer? Hopefully we'll be able to sort something out for i.d before we arrive, working at the theme part sounds lik good craic, were planning on heading over around the 22nd of May so i'm hoping it will be easier to get jobs if we get there early.

Yea we had the accomadation sorted before we left. The Whiffle Tree were more helpful than most about tellin us what we had to do in order to secure apartments when we rang them. If all your friends get together and get about $4000 dollars, even borrow it off your parents, put it in your bank accounts one by one. When u have the money in your accounts print off online statements showing you have $4000 in your account. They accepted that when we made our applications. It cost us about $300 per person a month for 6 of us in a 3 bed apartment which is very good. A 2 bed is cheaper again but not sure of the pricing. Plus they have a month by month lease option and not many places do that. We stayed for 2 months before we went traveling. They do look for a months rent as a deposit so thats an extra $300 but we got all that back at the end of the summer. If your over in Huntington that early you should look up Blue Water Pedicabs, they hired loads of people early last year. Basically you sit on a Padicab all day and cycle people up and down the pier, its a free service but u make money on tips. Not the must reliable form of income but a handy job at the beach and if you get lucky some days you could pull in around a $100.

    Thanks again Murph,
I'll trying giving them a ring soon to see if they will take us for the summer. $300 a month is alot cheaper than we thought we would have to pay. Just got one more question, are these apartments furnished or unfurnished? We don't mind either way but i've heard alot of places are unfurnished and we just need to know if we are going to need extra money to buy some basic furniture/ air mattresses. Thanks again for the help with jobs, i'll definitely be looking into Blue Water Pedicabs or the theme park once we arrive.

You can get them furnished or unfurnished. They do packages where they will rent u the furniture for 3months minumin. I think it takes your rent up to about $450/500 a month. The only thing is if you get a 2 month lease you still have to pay 23 month on the furniture. You get 2 double/4 single beds, a couch and armcair, table and 4 chairs, bedside lockers with lamps and a few other smaller things. I do know people that got air matresses lamps a cheap fold up table and chairs for cheap in wallmart, not as comfortable but saves money. Think they got all their kitchen amenities there as well as other basics for about $40 each between 6 of them. You'll have no couch or that in the living room but the carpet is soft!!! ha

Hey, myself and three others, all under 21 ,are heading to HB 28th may...i was just wondering whats the story with the social security numbers?? We were warned to stay clear of california as it can take anything from a few days to 12 weeks to get this once you arrive, and theres apparently no way to get employed by the big employers without on of these. Did anyone have any problems with this last year??

    Thanks

kerrylad, to my knowledge when you apply you get some sort of letter that you bring to your employer to prove that your going to have a ssn and everything is fine then.
