Hey! Five of us heading over to Chicago in the summer..Where is the best place to stay?? I heard wrigleyville??? Any more tips/info wud be appreciated!!!! Also anyone with acc up for sharing??
my friend is over there since ocotober on a year visa and still cant find work...he started off looking for construction jobs then he applied to every shop and he still cant find a job says its worse than ireland.He said all the pubs hire girls and arnt interested in hiring anyone.He's out everyday with the cv's and been to the irish emergration centre...But anyway he's living close to wrigleyville but also close to the tram line as its real handy to get downtown etc.
jaysus thats great to hear after i book my flites too chicago luckily i have already got a contact to get me a job over there and my mate is living over there and he says come may every year for the past 3 years he has been there all the pubs and restauarants especially on the pier take loads of j1'ers for jobs and especially the pubs cuz this year as they are trying to promote the world cup big this time and need the staff!! so dont be put off.....and accomdation dont have anything sorted yet their will be either 3 of us heading over or just me but if you wana share accom we would be up for it just let us know cheers
i have a friend who lives over there and bout 2 years ago he met a guy who owns a irish bar and actually is from where we are so our mate who lives over there now asked him would he set us up with jobs for the summer in the irish bar and he said yea and gave two of us jobs ;)
thats great for you!! chicago, what an amazing city. my case is a little different though. i should find a longer hotel job to be able to apply for J1. I ve been in chicago for three months last spring but I couldn't find a contact to arrange a job. I didnt think of though (silly me:) Do you know anyone working in a hotel in chicago? maybe they can help me find a hotel job there.
shifvey.... me and my mate are headin over for summer again! we were there 2 summers ago on j1 and had such a good time we goin back! we know everywhere to go cause all we did was go out every night and get in bits! we would prob be up for sharing cause its only the 2 of us headin for the summer????!! best spot to live is northside around wriglyville, lakeshore kinda area! best spot for irish and lots of bars and stuff too do!

I'm gonna be working at the Galway Bay Pub at 500 W Diversey. It's a great spot for j1'ers, was faourite pub when I was over 2 years ago. It's gonna be showing all the world cup matches and has savage drinks promos through the week, keep it in mind!
