    Hey guys,

    I'm looking for a job somewhere in the US for this summer. I need to find one before going over there in order to get J1 visa. I was wondering whether you have any contacts or advice about how and where to find sth. The location is not important, although California or Myrtle beach would be awesome :) thanx :o)

    well, i'm going on work&travel programm (it's for college students, you get work permission for 4 months + 1 month for travelling). I'm from Czech R. and that's how it works here. I need to have a job and accomodation arranged in order to get the visa. it really sucks. as far as i know, you can get a summer job in the US, but the employer wants to meet you first, which is kinda problem in my case :o)

    @marketa

    Yeah, our J1 is the same, except you don't need to have the job pre arranged. Of course it's better to, or at least to have a few contacts or interviews arranged, but not a prerequisite. Are you completely sure it's necessary in Czech r.? For us, the only thing a job defines is the amount of money that has to be available to you on entering the US (emergency back up money in case you don't get a job and need to come home)...

    you're right carrie. I called to the agency and they told me that i can find a job after arrival, but if i don't find anything within a month, i have to go back to Czech. They also told me, that usually just people who have already been there and have a social security number and return to their 'last year employer" do it this way. and that they highly don't recommend it. what about you, where are you heading? do you already have a job?

    I was on a J1 before and am going to California this summer on another....the key is go early, before the first of June if you can, get your social security ASAP and then look for work before the mass of irish come, the chez girl who is worried about work in the first month do not be, there are simple way's around that if you are unlucky enough not to work in first month......which wont happen !!

    I'm heading to San Francisco on the 2nd of June, but I sort of already have a job, a friend of ours has said that if they don't have a job for me, they'll find one for me in the restaurants nearby...

    Hello guys,

    I used Placement International last year for Work and Travel to be a life guard, and they were pretty decent about the pricing and efficient; I loved my experience.
