I'm in a group of 9 from dublin heading out on the 1st June. Nearly got my accomodation sorted, and I'm going to send out a few emails about jobs but I think the best thing to do is get there early and walk in to places with a CV
What sites have you been looking at for accomodation??
Everywhere ive seen seems way too expensive like $8500 for the summer for a house that can sleep up to six was the cheapest ive seen, which is still over $100 a week each (were arriving for the last week of May and leaving after the first in Sep)
Also where abouts in OC are ya looking? Apparently all the Irish live below 10th streeth and mainly 9th and 7th randomly enough
Everywhere is expensive since it's a holiday town, our 10 bed is 14,000 for the season. if we rent it we'll be staying on talbot street which is just south of 1st street.
If anyone is J1ing alone they might be able to share with us.
If we were staying for the full season 14,000 would work out at $100 each per week. I haven't seen anywhere cheaper unless we have people sleeping on the floor of a small place.
"Cost of the housing that our center rents includes utility bills (water, gas, electric, TV), so you only pay the rent, which varies from $65 per week to $90, again depending on the location and conditions of the accommodation"
Theres 6 of us, think we'll get somewhere that sleeps four and pack the 6 of us in :)
well theres 3 of us goin over on 25th may...if anyone wants to share accomodation wed be more than happy to..cant see ourselves managing to pay for accom wit only 3 of us!
nope weve nothin sorted..have ye looked for jobs or anything? ah 3 lads from shannon..2 of us are 19 and the other lad is 20..how bout yerselves? ya id be well up for dat..jus rent some place and pile everyone in :P
it looks like there 4 groups of people looking to share here, slippy-byrne jayone donnacha and ocmad. i am with jay1 and i would gladly pack any amount of us into a house to cut costs, it'd probably even be better craic! email is n.donoghue4@nuigalway.ie. theres 6 of us from galway headin over all lads and 19

theres 4 of us going over..2 guys and 2 girls..if any of ye want to share just email me at dedavoren@hotmail.com no point in paying tonnes of money between small group..the more the better :)..any of ye know the best way to go about arranging accom?
I'm in a group of 9, with 4 lads and 5 girls. We're going over on the 27th of May. I doubt many places you can rent would take much more than 9 people but if we hear about a place that will take more I'll leave a message, the more the merrier. If you want to get in contact my email is bgibney1@gmail.com. See you on the beach!
Four of us lads from Galway headin over, 20-22. Two of us were there last year, goin back for more this year! As has been said, ye shouldn't have any hassle getting jobs over there really, we all got them handy enough last summer.. No real need to have one before ye go, because the place is so seasonal everywhere is hiring at the start of the summer, its just a matter of putting the slog in of going around door to door asking for the manager. It only has a population of 8,000 during off season and that shoots up to something like 200,000 during summer months, I think!
My first impressions of the place last year were NOT GOOD! Place was dead for the first while (I wouldn't advise heading over too early, its a ghostown until bout second week of june really) and was pissing rain for a lot of june last year. It is a bit of a dated place, like most coastal resorts, and there is little there in terms of tourist attractions/ anything of note culturally. BUT having said that the place has a lot going for it, hence why we're going back! Its cheap, ($2 to ride the bus all day, and the different churches give out free dinners different nights of the week - lifesaver!), there are lots of nice jobs there, the scenerey is amazing, the beach is probably the nicest I've ever been on, and the boardwalks got a bita charm to it. What we did last year was we fitted in our travelling at the start and end, working in between, getting in the culture of the big cities that way, which worked out well, nice mix of beach, parties and cities. (New York, Philly, DC and Delaware - which is tax free - arent far away).
We had mad craic there last year, there's always a party on somewhere every night, didn't even go to any of the clubs last year, despite the fact that they are actually prettys strict on ID you wouldn't miss them, house parties are mental over there. I'd advise getting in with americans if ye can, when in america, blah.. and they'll show ye around, (a lot of them have cars so good for road trips etc), introduce ye to beer pong and lead ye to a string of parties where Irish are always a hit! Of course there's always other Irish heads around for sessions too, just as good! Can spot Irish a mile off anyway, so wont be hard to find each other..
Accomodation wise, we stayed in a motel for a week then two different apartments (one of which was a very plush penthouse :)) before we settled in our final place. Just got that sorted over there in the ocean city weekly rentals office, we were staying in an 8 bed (there was 7 of us) paying $1000 each for the season (including the two previous places) which was grand but reckon we'll hopefully get better this year. Most others last year piled way more than they were supposed to in which seemed to work a treat! Dont be expeting luxurious houses anyway, its generally two bunkbeds to a room. Most Irish last year would have stayed below 12th st, mainly 5th and 7th.
We'll probably be looking for people to share with as well, email eanna.macd@gmail.com if ye're up for that.. most ppl last year just met over there in the student centres etc at the start, leaving notes on the boards etc and got sorted that way, but no harm in a bit a forward planning!
is any of you flying to Newark Liberty International Airport and then somehow to Ocean City? do you already know how to get there? I've heard that ocean city student's centre provides this service, that they'll pick you up at the airport. do you have any experience with them?
Hey, There are four guys from cork that need between 2-4 people to fill an apartment in Ocean City! The apartment is on 9th street and it is one of the OC student centres apartments (Epoint Cafe)! It fits 8 people and we need a min of 6 to get the lease. Rent is cheap so if any1 is interested in sharing with us please e-mail me at darmur88@hotmail.com asap!
it looks like we're booking another apartment on 9th street as well. Group of 9 headed over on the 27th. Booking housing and airport pickup from e-point cafe
4 friends gone over today, 2 of us stuck here till the 1st of june, could be worse i suppose. Theyre bookin thru that student centre aswell, how much are you all payin for it?
