    A hoy hoy,

I am a 21 year old Design Student from Sydney Australia, and I am packing my bags in June and heading over to NYC for 8 months.

Would love to meet others going on the same adventure- as it is quite overwhelming!!

Am thinking of booking a hostel for a few weeks till i get everything sorted- ahh fingers crossed!!!

Anyone else taking a bite of the Big Apple?

Would love to share your fears and excitement? :-)

    Hey LoLA,

I'm from the Gold Coast, heading to the US in March, travelling for 2 weeks with a friend then when she heads back to Aus, i'll be settling in NYC. I am really scared about the whole thing but then I think about all the experiences i'll have, I get really excited!

Have you sorted a job yet?

    Hey MJ,

Oh March! that's so soon!! Very exciting!!

I haven't sorted a job yet :-S I am hoping to land work in a bar or in retail!!- Hopefully!!! At least you are heading over with a friend- This is the first thing I will be doing alone- and it is fREAKing me out!! But like yourself thinking about the experiences does seem to calm the soul!! lol It is going to be amazing for the both of us!! :-)

How long will you be living in NYC?

    Have you book accommodation?

I don't know if it's just me, but I have no idea which part of NYC to settle down in.

Yes, very soon, very freaky. It will be good to have a friend at first but she will only be there for 2 weeks while we travel then i'm on my lonesome... eep!

I hope to be there for about 6 months at least. I haven't sorted a job either, i want to do an internship and then just work in a bar or something to get by.

I have accom for when I am with my friend but nothing after that, was just going to book a hostel for a couple of weeks. I have been told Williamsburg is pretty trendy and good for music and art so was going to check that out, but I spose it will depend on where I get a job and how much my budget will allow!

It is definitely going to one amazing experience and we will have to get in touch when you arrive!

Are you going to be studying, doing an internship or just working?

Ah you sound like you're on top of it!!! :-) I think we will be fine getting work!! What type of internship are you looking for?

I am just heading over to work. I am in my fourth year of study and I am just over it!! I need a break and some real life experiences happening!! So I am hoping to work till next March and then do some volunteer work in Mexico.

Williamsburg, hey? I will look into it! :-) I am enjoying the thought of Brooklyn and Queens- but I think that is just because I am a HUGH Fran Dresher fan from the Nanny- and the accent make me very happy!! haha

Definitely will have get in touch when I arrive. What's your email or facebook if you have one?

I want to get an internship in music marketing, fashion PR or publishing, something that isn't readily available in Aus.

Doing a design degree, you'll definitely pick up work, everytime i do a job search design stuff comes up. Is there any particular indusstry you are interested in?? I just had a friend move to Cuba yesterday to volunteer at an orphanage for a month...

Yeah Brooklyn looks rad and it is a lot cheaper than Manhattan. I heard that Sunnyside/Queens area is really up and coming and getting trendier, so that could be a goer! Oh I love the Nanny too - the reruns on Go channel are awesome!

My facebook is http://www.facebook.com/reqs.php#!/mariaviolet and we'll keep in touch!

Hey guys, I am heading over on the 1st June for 4 months with one friend and we will be living somewhere in Brooklyn. Hoping to get a one bedroom place and share as we want to keep rent to a minimum. We can just throw an extra mattress down or something. Hoping to find a place in Williamsburg as I have heard so many good things about this area, and its supposed to be pretty buzzing with live music and young people. Have you guys any idea how much you are expecting to pay for rent? I'm still trying to get an idea.

    A hoy hoy,

I have been looking at Williamsburg also- seems to be the happening place!!

Have looked on craigslist and from what I have gathered rent could be looking at $800-$1400 a month. EEEEPPP!!!!

I am just hoping once i get there everything will fall into place!!! :-D

Are you working or study when you get there?

Hey, yeah rent in williamsburg looks pretty pricey. There are other great locations in Brooklyn too around Brunswick, Fort Green area that are aslo very close to Willaimsburg so I'd be happy to get in anywhere like that. I have friends who are currently in NY working and living in Queens and they have told me that it should not be hard to find somewhere good around Brooklyn in the summer as a lot of students sub let their apartments. I am with one other friend who is arriving 4 weeks after I arrive so for the first month I am not sure what I am going to do. I will be looking for a job anyway asap and I can stay with my friends in Queens for about a week. After that I am thinking of doing some couch surfing or finding somewhere to love in for a few weeks until my friend arrives. Lol, like yourself, I am just hoping it all falls in to place. Very excited about arriving in NY though, and cannot wait to check out some gigs and clubs around Brooklyn. There is pretty much something good on every nite of the week :)
Anyway if you are interested in meeting up over there and going for beers or something let me know.
    Cheers

Hey sorry, haven't checked this forum in a while. No me and my friend are both from Ireland. I've been hearing a lot of great things about Bushwick as an area to live in. It is also in Brooklyn and just a few stops from Williamsburg. Apparently it is cheaper to live in and is also booming so I think I'm gonna target this place to live. We are hoping to get in to a loft if possible sharing with others, would be a great way to meet people and have lots of big parties!! I might check out a hostel for a few nites also in Brooklyn or couch surf, I figure you can't really plan much without even arriving so just gotta take the adventure as it comes. Email is mark.dolan3@gmail.com am on facebook too.

hey sie i'm ciara and i'm going on my own as well. jetting off on the 1st June. either planning on staying in a hostel or with my friend for the first few weeks. but i am completly up for sharing a place. the last time i stayed in new york stayed in The Big Apple hostel it was brilliant. Its practically on Times Square. now i think its pretty reasonable theres also 2 private rooms with en suites on the top floor which is really good if u don't want dorm rooms. but really recommend it The Big Apple Hostel.
Guys a few of the people on this are meeting up in Dublin on the 31st March i think so if any of u's are up for it. let me no and i'll keep u posted
