I was thinking of heading to Chicago. i have a friend from america who is going to be living there for the summer and she says that its a big irish town (dunno if she means actual irish or americans with irish decency)
hey myself and a mate are headin back to chi town for summer! we were there 2 years ago and r comin back cause it was unreal! we know all tthe spots and everywhere to go! all we did is drink everyday, get up and the same again! best place to stay is in the north around wriglyville area! it was full of irish last time but not sure this year! we need people to bring the rent down!
yea it savage man, im choosen it over san diego so trust me here! last time there was a place to go every night where evryone went cause they had drink promotions! best night of the week was $2 pitchers in a club! unreal it was. we dont really plan on workin cause got we got the j1 last time but couldnt find job so if we strugglin gonna maybe get some cash in hand jobs! theres usually a bit of that goin around! keep the money rollin basically
sound like my kinda man fswilson! accomodation.....wriggglyville area(northside), dont live in city, too expensive and all the best bars are in the northside! trust me on this! jobs...i dunno really cause i dont plan on workin unless something handy comes along but if u gettin the visa head down to navy pier! they always take on people during the summer! theres a guy in chi town who basically helps out all j1 students on ac comadationa etc. he sorted us out basically! gonna go to him again probably when go back!

This is it! ye hear wiggleyville is the place 2 b, Herd about this famous man aswell, sounds like quite the hero! headin over 27th may and stayin in chicago till 20th august then off to LA! ye we be gameball for sharing accomodation, from portmarnock, northside dublin, yourself? age?

hey dave91.. check out criagslist.org for jobs online! its hard to get them now! usually people get them when they get there cause not all jobs are shown online! theres always jobs goin down by navy pier so google dat maybe

hows a goin! look at sublets and temporary section! its hard but ya gotta keep tryin basically, we didnt get a place till we got there so just keep ringing up and askin! are u lookin for a house or apartment cause 6 is a lot for an apartment??! tell them theres only 2/3 of yas and then pile in as many as ya can when ya get the place!(we had 5 in a one bed last time)
for clubs, they certainly wont accept ya bein irish as ok, cause they kinda hate ya after a while cause we are such messers! u need some sort of id or ya wont get in, fake passport should work, people used dat last time and it worked! bring another form of id as well to prove its u!

the more money for beer the better. sure the house is only gonna be a place to rest the head and eat ya know. am from kildare myself. have managed to get a few responses on some contry clubs a bit outside the city but all are saying to give them a call when i get in and go for an interview
It's easy enough to get accomodation when ya get over as well! We went into an agency and they sorted us with an apartment downtown! We said there was 3 of us but we fit 8 in, 700 dollars each for the 3 months! Alot of bars around wrigleyville and lincoln park would be hiring as well!

Accomadation advice: Stayed in lincoln park area, the appartment block i stayed in was 'park view appartments'. The two head landlords love irish, so mention it. 3126643200 is the number for the place, rent is slightly higher then most places in chicago but if you sharing with another 4 or so people its grand. Sundeck view of full city skyline and beach. 5 min walk from beach, quality local bars. 20min walk to city center or bus right outside door, gym, laudry in basement. Quality place. Remember.....just dont rent on the southside!!!!!
Finding jobs advice: As for work... its pretty tricky. Best advice is 'gray line tours', its a chicago city touring bus company. They employ a shit load of irish every summer, so as soon as you get over... apply.... handy number! heard of a few lads getting golf caddying jobs, terrible hours but unbelievable money so thats worth a look. A good bit of work is to be found around 'navy pier' also, get down there early with a resume do or you wont get a sniff. Other then that theres a bit of bar work to be found here and there (not much) but again get in there early.
Need help finding accomadation or work.... ring 7733483267 and ask for dan o donnel. Hes a ledge, he sorts irish j1s out every summer. Cant go wrong with this guy, address is on his facebook page, just type in 'i met dan o donnel in chicago' think thats it.
Night life: 'Joe's sports bar' and 'big city tap'. Enough said. Milwalkees best ice is the beer of choice for house parties and general beering. cheap as fuck!!
Coupla more things ... six flags theme park is a MUST! Takes bout an hour an a half to get there by a coupla trains but its fucking quality!! Lolapaloza is also a must, cheap as chips compared to back home for a festival and the best in the world preform. dont want to pay full price?? give a steward a sneaky 20 dollar bill to head in for the last hour or 2 of the day!

I'm gonna be working at the Galway Bay Pub at 500 W Diversey. It's a great spot for j1'ers, was faourite pub when I was over 2 years ago. It's gonna be showing all the world cup matches and has savage drinks promos through the week, keep it in mind!
