hey 5 girls here from laois , cork, dublin and roscommon jus wonderin wha people thought of Hyannis or nantucket?? we're kinda set on nantucket but we'r kinda worried we wont get a job in nantucket, wha are the job prospects like? is it good craic over der? Also has anyone been to ohio either cos we got a job offer der??? bit of a random place called lodi!
Nantucket, 2 hour ferry ride from Hyannis. Cost of living (housing/food/craic) 20-50% higher than Mainland. Hyannis 1.5 hour by bus from Boston, 4 hrs to NYC. More jobs/housing/craic/beaches/affordability in Hyannis (have lived here for 4 decades), little to do on Nantucket. Lived in Ohio for 2 years, not sure why that would attract you.
wel we're only interested in ohio cos we got a job offer der . We're basically tryin to go somewhere theres a bigger chance of getting a job or if its good craic there either :) so nantucket wudn be your piece of cake? nd hyannis wud b better? Seeing as your living there now would you know of any good places to apply to? thanks so much , your help greatly appreciated!
Main St. Hyannis full of retail stores/restaurants/snack & touristy stores, Irish students usually well able to find jobs there. Eastern Europeans usually arrive a couple of weeks prior to Irish and get some of the better jobs. Some links: www.capecod-irishvillage.com (508-771-0100) - manager is a Tommy Mac (Antrim man) - Irish Village is 2 miles E from Hyannis in W Yarmouth, large motel/cottage/pub/restaurant complex. Daily paper: www.capecodonline.com, www.tommydoyles.com/blog/hyannis (508-862-9430) - Irish pub on Main Street - hired lots of Irish girls last Summer, not sure of wages, etc. Nantucket is wealthy resort area, very attractive but I think jobs/housing/craic left wanting. Ádh mor!
hey thanks a mill for your the advice! :) we booked our flights to boston there yesterday so we're all excited now!!!! We'l arrive the first week of june. We're still undecided about where we'l head for once we get over there though. Now we're thinking of staying in Boston because we hear its easier to get accommodation and to get around. Do you have any thoughts of where would be a good place to look for jobs there? or any advice in general? Thanks so much ! :)
For Boston on one of the J1 Boston topics I have suggested the Irish Immigration Center in downtown Boston, www.iicenter.org as a possible source of jobs/housing. They operate daily and usually help J1s. Weekly Irish paper in Boston may be helpful www.irishemigrant.com.
