   J1 visa without going through a company? I want to book my own flights so do I go to the US embassy myself in Dublin?

   you should go on the the u.s embassy website and all the info you need is there. i looked into doing it myself but its more hassle and dosent work out any cheaper

   I looked into in but the flights were almost double in price to New York. How much do you reckon you would need to bring over with you? would 1000euro be enough?

   i reckon $2000 unless ya already have accomodation and a job sorted before ya get there
