   Hi,
   
   Has anyone been asked in the J1 interview about participating in the green card lottery?
   I heard that it is not supposed to influence the decision, but I want to make sure they don't ask, and if they do ask, what would you think an appropriate answer would be.

   Nope, I have not heard of anyone being asked that. I think it was mentioned somewhere in the forms we filled out though.

   In the forms there is a box relating to past visa applications. However, the consulate said that green card lottery applications are NOT to be mentioned there unless there was a winning and an actual pursuit of a green card.

   To participate in the Green Card Lottery is NOT considered a visa application/petition.
